Dark Fiber Solutions

Only fiber can provide the bandwidth necessary to power e-commerce and government services, as well as support consumers’ increasingly digital lifestyles.

The existing fiber paths connecting the Baltimore, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia areas are congested, offer little path diversity, and are shared by multiple service providers, all of which create vulnerability for both the private and public sectors.

Harbor Link’s open-access business model increases competition, levels the playing field between small and large fiber providers, and rapidly accelerates 5G adoption by expediting the fiber deployment process.

Harbor Link Network

Harbor Link’s network will extend 720 miles within Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC.

The network will increase affordable access to broadband for the public and private sectors and provide additional infrastructure resiliency, security, and capacity throughout the region.

Private Networks

Harbor Link’s private network option allows for connecting points between buildings, around a campus, or throughout a county or state without reliance on pre-existing networks. We provide a turnkey network solution that is constructed to serve your specific communications needs and justifies itself through the reduction, or elimination, of costs from outside service providers.

You get our resilient and secure network, connected just for you.

Underground Conduit System Cross Section

Harbor Link’s underground conduit system is secured with locking manhole covers and stored in a concrete manhole vault. Concrete encased duct banks connect the vaults, linking the manholes and creating the network. The structure keeps the lines of dark fiber protected from intrusion and prevents future construction damage.

Private Conduit

Underground conduit plays a pivotal role in telecommunications as it carries and protects the fiber necessary to power e–commerce and government services, as well as supports consumers’ digital lifestyles. As businesses and people become more reliant on their digital devices and data, there is a corresponding increase in the need for underground conduit to carry the fiber.

Applications in the market today require customer-owned or leased conduits. There is no better way to future-proof your network than conduit ownership that allows for growth beyond today’s needs.

However, the existing conduit networks connecting the Baltimore, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia areas are congested, offer little path diversity, and are shared by multiple service providers, all of which create vulnerability for both the private and public sectors. Private conduit from Harbor Link can solve these problems.

SECURITY
Incorporating conduit from Harbor Link in your network can help guarantee end-to-end security for your data and services. The entire Harbor Link conduit infrastructure will be protected by locked and secured concrete manholes, which only Harbor Link and other authorized personnel can access.

CONTROL
To accommodate customer needs and emergency situations, access to the Harbor Link manholes will be available to Harbor Link employees and authorized personnel 24/7/365 through a call system. Customers can choose to extend the conduit by constructing individual handholes next to the Harbor Link network that would serve as gateways to their new or existing communications facilities. In this way, customers can maintain control of splicing, record keeping, and testing functions on their networks without needing to access the Harbor Link manholes.
